Polio Plus was a strategic humanitarian initiative led by Rotary District 3220 to strengthen the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. The project was hosted by the Rotary Club of Kandy with the support of the Rotaract Clubs of Kandy and the University of Peradeniya, marking the official launch of the $100 Charity Box Fundraiser for Polio.The event was held on 31st January 2026 at Kandy City Centre (KCC) and featured a special screening of the movie Rhythm of the Guitar: Clarence at the KCC Multiplex from 5.00 p.m. With ticket prices set at Rs. 6,000, the screening served as a meaningful platform to engage the community in humanitarian service while actively contributing to fundraising efforts aimed at polio eradication. Following the screening, a Rooftop After Party was organised from 7.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m., providing an opportunity for fellowship and interaction among participants. The project’s central objective was to to officially launch the $100 Charity Box Fundraiser for Polio and mobilise immediate financial support for polio eradication efforts. To engage the community in humanitarian service through a meaningful and interactive fundraising event. To raise awareness on polio eradication by highlighting real-life experiences through the presence of a polio eradication advocate with lived experience. To strengthen fellowship among Rotarians, Rotaractors, and the wider community through shared service and social interaction. To support global vaccination and surveillance initiatives through effective and transparent fundraising. Long-Term Objectives To contribute sustainably toward the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, supporting the worldwide mission of achieving a polio-free future. To foster long-term community commitment toward humanitarian causes and global health initiatives. To strengthen collaboration between Rotary and Rotaract clubs, encouraging future joint initiatives with lasting impact. To cultivate a culture of empathy, social responsibility, and service leadership among Rotaractors and volunteers.
